Feverish Pitch

The Really Skinny textbook debate. I am not certain which three authors I want to include yet. Perhaps Whitman, Robert Frost, and John Updike? I like Whitmans free liberty and Frost's descriptive poetry. I haven't really read anything by Updike yet, but look forward to learning more about him. Thank You in advance for any feedback that you have for me on this.

  1. Would your argument be that Frost is an Modernist? I think you can make a case for this, though he's not commonly thought of as a Modernism (but there are definitely aspects of Modernism in his work). So I think that would be a really interesting argument for the essay.

Updike intrigues me. We didn't talk about him this semester, partly because I wanted to focus on Welty and O'Connor. But I think it's an interesting choice, and one that I think would be very presentable in an essay like this.

Think about a representative of Modernism. If not Frost, then who? Updike? Maybe, though I'm more convinced of his American Realism credentials.

But all of this sounds interesting. I'm looking forward to reading.
